On October 19th, 2024, The Mosaic in Minneapolis was transformed into a dazzling “Purple Paradise” for the 5th Annual Black Business Ball. Hosted by Black Business Enterprises (BBE) under the visionary leadership of founder Nancy Korsah, the event was a powerful celebration of Black excellence, entrepreneurial achievement, and community unity. Attendees from across the Twin Cities and beyond gathered to honor the accomplishments of Black-owned businesses in an unforgettable evening filled with glamour, inspiration, and cultural pride.
Honoring Black Excellence
This year’s Ball highlighted some of the most inspiring leaders in the Black business community. Candice Ellis was crowned Entrepreneur of the Year, recognized for her relentless drive and significant contributions to her industry. Meanwhile, Tommy McNeal and his team at Flame Mobile Kitchen earned the Tasty Choice of the Year Award, applauded for their culinary innovation and impact on the local food scene.
The dynamic hosting duo of award-winning journalist Shayla Reaves and comedian Joseph “Juice” Sutton kept the energy high, blending heartfelt moments with humor as they celebrated the successes of Black entrepreneurs.
Yung Joc: Iconic in Every Way
One of the evening’s most electrifying moments came when hip-hop artist and reality TV star Yung Joc took the stage for a show-stopping performance. His high-energy set had the audience on their feet, bringing the perfect close to an incredible night. In a surprise twist, Joc was honored with the prestigious Icon Award, recognizing his influential role in Black culture and entrepreneurship.
A Historic Proclamation: Black Business Day
In a groundbreaking move, Governor Tim Walz’s office officially declared October 19 as Black Business Day in Minnesota. This historic proclamation acknowledges the resilience, dedication, and success of Black-owned businesses across the state. Spearheaded by Nancy Korsah, this recognition is a monumental step in celebrating the contributions of Black entrepreneurs and fostering continued support for their growth.
“Black Business Day celebrates not only the entrepreneurial spirit but the strength and unity of our community,” said Korsah. “We are proud to stand with and support Black entrepreneurs as they reach their goals and create lasting impacts in our society.”
Building a Legacy of Empowerment
The Black Business Ball is more than an awards ceremony—it’s a vital platform for supporting and uplifting Black entrepreneurs. Black Business Enterprises, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit, has been at the forefront of providing mentorship, funding, and resources to help Black-owned businesses thrive. From financial literacy training to entrepreneurial workshops, BBE equips its members with the tools they need to succeed.
Korsah’s personal dedication to the event was evident in every detail. From the stunning purple-themed decor to the seamless flow of the program, her touch ensured that every guest felt celebrated and inspired.
