Award-winning playwright Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson brings the stage production to Morehouse College for one night only, with a story that examines what can happen when faith, leadership and human imperfection intersect.
ATLANTA — The Black church has long held a significant place in our communities. It has been a source of faith and fellowship, a gathering place during some of our most important cultural and political movements, and, for many families, an institution passed from one generation to the next.
But like every institution entrusted with influence, there are also conversations about leadership, responsibility and accountability.
Pulpit Pimping is stepping directly into that conversation.
Award-winning playwright Dr. Letitia Scott Jackson will bring the stage production to Atlanta on Saturday, August 29, 2026, for a one-night performance at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College.
The play explores power, faith, deception and redemption while looking beyond what congregations see on Sunday mornings to examine some of the complicated human realities that can exist behind the pulpit.
It is a subject that carries particular weight within the Black community, where pastors and church leaders have historically occupied positions extending far beyond Sunday worship.
And that makes the questions raised by Pulpit Pimping worth considering.
What happens when spiritual leadership and personal struggles occupy the same space? How should those entrusted with leading others be held accountable? And how do people reconcile their faith with the imperfections of those called to lead?
Jackson uses theater to explore those questions without separating the institution from the people who comprise it.
At the center of the production is Pastor Leon LoeDown, portrayed by Jarric Tucker. Danielle Jackson stars opposite Tucker as First Lady Linda LoeDown, a woman navigating the complexities of faith, family and difficult truths. Jackson is also the mother of acclaimed actor Myles Truitt.
Comedian, actor, television host and radio personality Rodney Perry joins the Atlanta production in a special guest appearance as Deacon Noah Good. Perry brings decades of entertainment experience spanning television, film, radio and stand-up comedy.
Acclaimed filmmaker, actor and television director Javon Johnson directs the production. His credits include The Oval, American Soul and The Lincoln Lawyer, along with numerous other film and television productions.
A Conversation Bigger Than the Stage
There is an important distinction between questioning faith and examining the people and institutions entrusted with representing it.
Pulpit Pimping appears interested in the latter.
Jackson’s work examines church leadership and spiritual accountability while acknowledging something relatively simple but sometimes difficult to discuss openly: respected public figures are still human beings, and titles do not eliminate human struggles.
That conversation is especially relevant in communities where the church remains deeply woven into family, culture and community life.
Bringing the production to Atlanta — and specifically to Morehouse College — provides an interesting setting for that discussion. Atlanta’s relationship with Black faith, education, culture and leadership runs deep, making the city a natural backdrop for a production centered on those themes.
Theater has always provided space for communities to examine themselves.
Sometimes it entertains.
Sometimes it challenges.
And sometimes it simply puts a familiar conversation onstage and allows an audience to see it from another perspective.
On August 29, Pulpit Pimping will bring that conversation to Atlanta.
What audiences ultimately take from it will be their own decision.
But perhaps that’s precisely where meaningful theater should leave us — not necessarily with all the answers, but with something worth discussing after the curtain closes.
