New York, October 3, 2025 — Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced today to 50 months in federal prison, fined $500,000, and ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his conviction on prostitution-related charges. He will also receive credit for approximately one year already spent in custody since his arrest in September 2024.
Conviction and Acquittals
In July, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. He was acquitted on more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of more than 11 years, but Judge Arun Subramanian delivered a 50-month term, noting that while Combs’ stature and philanthropy are widely recognized, accountability could not be overlooked.
Statements in Court
In his remarks to the court, Combs expressed remorse, describing some of his actions as “disgusting, shameful, and sick.” Several survivors, including Cassie Ventura, delivered emotional statements about the trauma they endured. Members of Combs’ family, including his children, also addressed the judge, asking him to consider the impact of a lengthy sentence. Judge Subramanian acknowledged both the harm described by survivors and the pleas for leniency, framing the moment as one of accountability and reflection.
A Legacy in Question
For decades, Sean Combs has been a towering figure in hip-hop, fashion, and media. Yet this conviction places his legacy under sharp scrutiny, raising difficult questions about power, influence, and responsibility. As he begins his sentence, the case stands as a landmark moment—underscoring that prominence does not exempt anyone from the rule of law.
