Who wrote the rulebook that says when the temperature drops, our vibrancy has to drop with it?
For too long, society has tried to convince us that bold colors have a seasonal expiration date—that electric blues, fiery reds, and vibrant magentas are reserved strictly for summer patios, while winter is relegated to a “safe” uniform of grays, blacks, and muted neutrals.
I’m here to tell you that rule is expired.
As we step into this winter season, I am challenging you to reject the drab. I don’t believe that being bold should ever take a holiday.
Color as a Form of Expression We often talk about “finding our voice,” but we forget that our visual presence speaks before we ever open our mouths. Color, no matter the shade, is one of the most potent forms of self-expression we have. It is energy made visible.
In a crowded room filled with people playing it safe, a bold lip or a striking eye look doesn’t just say, “I’m here.” It says, “I deserve to be seen.” It speaks up for you. It announces your confidence before you even introduce yourself.
When the skies outside are gray, that is not your cue to match them. That is your cue to become the light in the room.
The Discovery in the Mix I’m an innovator at heart. I’ve spent 27 years in the beauty industry, not just following trends, but analyzing the “why” behind them.
Recently, I was playing around with some basic shades—the “safe” colors we’re told to stick to. But the visionary in me couldn’t leave them alone. I started mixing. I started disrupting the standard. And in that process of mixing things up, I discovered a bold, unexpected color that completely shifted my energy.
It wasn’t just a new shade; it was a realization. We find our truest selves when we stop coloring inside the lines others have drawn for us. That custom blend wasn’t just pigment; it was attitude. It was confidence bottled up.
Stewarding Your Vibrancy Wearing bold color this winter isn’t just about vanity; it’s an act of self-love. It’s telling yourself that you are worthy of taking up space, regardless of the season.
When you apply that vibrant shade, you are making a conscious decision to be awake, to be present, and to be fabulous on purpose. You are being a good steward over the beauty and the fire that God placed inside you.
The Winter Challenge So, Cultural Kare readers, here is my charge to you this season: Stop shrinking. If you have a dream that is bold, your look needs to match that energy.
Don’t wait for the sun to come out to shine. Grab that electric pigment you’ve been scared to open. Mix the shades you didn’t think belonged together. Wear the color that makes your spirit stand up straight.
Be bold. Be seen. And never apologize for coloring outside the box.
