Jackson Township, N.J. — The sister of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid was fatally shot in New Jersey on Saturday morning, in what prosecutors describe as a domestic violence case.

Authorities identified the victim as Toraya Reid, 28, who was found outside the Paragon Apartment Complex in Jackson Township around 11 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutors allege that Shaquille Green, 29, who was in a relationship with Reid, opened fire before fleeing the area. He was arrested shortly after and is facing charges of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Green is being held at Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation.

Family Reaction

Naz Reid, 26, has not yet issued a formal statement, but he recently shared childhood photos of his sister on social media. In a 2023 interview, the Timberwolves big man described Toraya as “super protective” and a guiding force in his life.

Reid’s younger sister, Jakahya Reid, posted an emotional tribute online, writing: “My sister has a name… She is not just the NBA superstar’s sister. She has a name and that is Toraya Reid.”

She also referred to the alleged shooter as a “coward,” underscoring the family’s anger and grief.

A Rising NBA Star Facing Personal Loss

Naz Reid, entering his sixth NBA season, signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension with Minnesota this summer. Widely regarded as a core piece of the Timberwolves’ future, he now faces the challenge of mourning his sister’s death while preparing for the upcoming season.
